Hi, my name is Vladimir Stefanishin, and I am the creator and trainer of Progressive Self-Regulation or PSR. For decades, human potential has been my professional interest and my hobby.

After earning MA in Journalism and Psychology, I worked as a scientific researcher for Ukrainian Institute of Psychology. It was a good experience and training for my further discoveries in the field of my interests.

My work with cadets and military pilots at Chernigov School of Military Pilots (a prestigious military school in the ex-USSR) gave me an extensive experience in developing and applying mental techniques for extreme flight situations.

Working as a psychologist at Kiev Palace for Children and Youth in Ukraine, I established the self-development and self-improvement lab, the first phone hot line and two clubs for teenagers. At that time, I developed a few curriculums for cognitive and emotional development of adolescents.

My immigration to the USA in 1996 was not so fruitful. However, if I were not here, I probably would not have created PSR. My teaching experience with American students and experiments with athletes allowed me to create the technique. PSR, which is based on Russian theories of physiology, works great for American mentality. This is really a good mix.

Usually, my clients are HS, college and even professionals athletes. This is why this website is mainly about sports and fitness. In addition, athletic oriented folks, especially young ones, master PSR with ease. I help non-athletic people as well, but it has been more of a sporadic practice than a regular one.

I have not promoted PSR too much because of numerous doubts in relation to becoming acclimated to a new culture and society. Those who are familiar with PSR, and my friends, encourage me to promote the technique to the public. One of them wrote, ‘My main concern, not really a concern though, with Vladimir's technique, is that he isn't willing or doesn't know how to teach it to others--which means his version will die with him. Learning how to do these things in 15-30 minutes is amazing.’ (Read more here). I am willing and do know how to teach the technique to others. Are others willing to learn the technique and then apply it? This is my main concern.

You are probably interested in finding other sources on PSR. Indeed, you will not find too much. There are just a couple of articles on the subject published in Japan and the US, and one article in Great Britain. Lynn Schroeder & Sheila Ostrander have described some of my achievements in the field of human potential in 'Superlearning-2000' (N.Y. 1994).

I have been working on my book about PSR. Maybe, I will publish it someday...
